Privacy policy

Planet Pilot collects very little. This page says exactly what, why, and how to have it deleted.

Draft, to be reviewed. This policy has not yet been checked by a privacy lawyer and may change before launch.

Who we are

Planet Pilot is made by an independent developer (the "controller" under data protection law). Contact for anything in this policy, including deletion requests: privacy@planetpilot.world.

The short version

  • Planet Pilot has no accounts, no ads, no analytics and no tracking.
  • It sends data only when you send a problem report or play online (Dogfights PvP and co-op).
  • Problem reports are kept for 90 days, then deleted. You can ask us to delete one sooner.

1. Problem reports (optional)

Nothing is sent unless you press Send report: after the game closed unexpectedly, or from Settings > Report a problem. A report holds:

  • the game version and its update history, the Windows version, the game's language and your system locale;
  • the graphics card, its driver, the renderer, and the screen and window size;
  • a random session number made at each start (it is not tied to you or your PC);
  • the last 64 KB of that session's game log, with your Windows user folder name hidden;
  • the comment you type (optional, up to 1,000 characters). Please do not write personal details in it.

Your IP address reaches our server as part of the connection. We use it only to limit how many reports one address can send per hour (kept in memory, never written into the report). Our hosting provider may keep it in its connection logs for a short time.

Why: to find and fix crashes and bugs. Legal basis: your consent (you choose to send each report). You can withdraw it by asking us to delete the report.

If a report cannot be sent (you are offline), the game keeps it on your PC and asks you at the next start whether to send it or delete it. It never sends it again without asking.

Report id: after a report arrives, the card shows its id (for example 20261007-142233-1a2b3c). Email that id to privacy@planetpilot.world to have the report deleted. We delete it within 30 days and confirm by email.

Retention: 90 days from receipt, then deleted automatically.

2. Online play (Dogfights PvP and co-op)

When you play online, the game connects to our game server and sends what a match needs:

  • your callsign, chosen from two fixed word lists (there is no free-text name and no chat);
  • a random seat token for the match, your platform and the game's protocol and physics versions;
  • your aircraft's flight and combat state during the match;
  • on Steam, your Steam display name and Steam ID when a Steam lobby or invite is used;
  • your IP address, to connect you and to limit abuse (rate limits, kept in memory).

Why: to run the match. Legal basis: performance of the service you asked for (contract) and our legitimate interest in keeping matches fair and the server safe. We do not keep match data after the match ends, except anonymous server logs (no names, no IP addresses) for up to 90 days.

3. Updates (direct-download builds only)

The version downloaded from our site (not the Steam version) checks GitHub Releases for updates at start. GitHub sees your IP address; see GitHub's privacy statement. Steam handles the updates of the Steam version.

4. Who processes the data

  • Railway (Railway Corporation, USA): hosts the game server that receives problem reports and runs online matches.
  • Valve (Steam): your Steam account, purchases, lobbies and invites; see the Steam privacy policy.
  • GitHub (GitHub, Inc., USA): update checks of the direct-download builds, and the hosting of this website (see section 9).

We do not sell or share your data with anyone else.

5. International transfers

Our server is in the United States. If you play from the EU, the UK or Israel, report and online-play data is transferred there. We rely on the providers' standard contractual clauses (and the EU-US Data Privacy Framework where the provider is certified) for these transfers.

6. Your rights

Under the GDPR (EU), the UK GDPR and Israel's Protection of Privacy Law (including Amendment 13), you can ask for access to, a copy of, correction of or deletion of your data, and object to or restrict its use. Because we hold no accounts, we can find a problem report only by its report id: email it to privacy@planetpilot.world. We answer within 30 days. You can also complain to your data protection authority (in Israel: the Privacy Protection Authority; in the UK: the ICO; in the EU: your national authority).

7. Children

Planet Pilot is not directed to children under 13 (under 16 where local law sets that age), and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them. If you believe a child has sent us a report with personal details, email us and we will delete it.

8. Changes

We will post any change on this page with a new date. A significant change will also be mentioned in the game's release notes.

9. This website

planetpilot.world sets no cookies, uses no analytics or advertising, and loads its fonts and images from itself. It is hosted on GitHub Pages; like any web host, GitHub receives your IP address and browser details to deliver the pages and may keep them in its server logs. We do not receive those logs. The trailer is a YouTube video that loads only when you press play, from youtube-nocookie.com; Google's privacy policy applies to it.
